The Easiest Way To Lose Your Fan Page

Facebook has been playing with the admin settings for a while now, and the most recent change has allowed the last admin to remove themselves without deleting the fan page. Is your page in danger?
Before, the last admin was prompted to delete the fan page before they were allowed to click through to remove their profile as an admin to the page. Now that this barrier has been removed, fan pages all over Facebook are going, well, adminless. And once this happens, it’s nearly impossible to regain control.
So what can you do to prevent this from happening to your fan page? First, make sure only people you trust, completely trust, have admin access to your fan page. There are various opinions on the matter, but I recommend having at least one other admin on your page besides yourself. This way, if something happens to your own account, someone still has control of the fan page and can add you back. Fans are valuable, and we always hate to see legitimate fan pages with solid fan numbers get stranded without admins.
Second, make sure the people who do have admin access to your fan page understand how it works. Countless times has someone gone to the admin settings of their fan page trying to add/remove and ended up removing everyone.
Keeping these two suggestions in mind could save you a headache down the road, or at least until the admin settings are changed again.
Do you know others who have fan pages? If so, please share this so that they, too, can be saved from the adminless fan page.

I have been a social media marketer going on 3 years. I have been an Internet marketer for over 14. I was a spammer back when that meant entrepreneur. I have always worked hard for what I have and never went to college. I did however tour some colleges just out of high school playing music, so I guess I lived the life without the large loans. I never liked working for other people. I always knew that someone else was making a fortune from my hard labor; I built houses and then sold cars. I do what I love and love what I do! Oh and I love my wife, kids and dogs. Kitty...you're OK I guess...

Great article thanks Troy, I'm off to share this with the members of my fan page!

I definitely agree, more than one admin person on a page is very sensible, a forward think idea! We are all human and mistakes sometimes happen even with the best intentions.
In terms of risk limitation when working on pages for clients, having at least 2 admin people demonstrates to the client a level of due diligence within our organisation too.

This already happened to me and it sucks!
The page was really just being created, so no big loss, but I'm LOCKED OUT
You're lucky. Many people have 1000's of fans when this happens.
This is one of those situations where you think you could not be careless enough for it to happen to you. Then, one day, when you are in your admin area messing around with things, you gasp for air when you realize you just clicked on the wrong thing...and you removed yourself as an admin.
Better safe then sorry, I always say. Thanks for the post, Troy!
Exactly! It's so easy to do. And now that there are no warnings, it's especially dangerous.
Troy,
I didn't have a clue to have more than one Admin & I'm a professional Internet Marketing Coach... I just keep learning something new every day! Super - great back up plan to have at least one other as an Admin! I'll be sharing this with my clients! Thanks!

Awesome! Thanks Jo.
Jo...you ROCK!!!
I feel you guys on this. Although I have been fortunate in not encountering losing my "like" page, I did get locked out of my FB account and could not retrieve it until ownership was proved. It was Nightmare on Elm for sure. I was forced to answer more than 35 consecutive questions with uncanny accuracy, which included matching a name with a friend's photo, including those in their profiles. After eight hours of this profound tedium, I was relieved that the "key turned," so to speak, and granted access once again. I did not think I would ever get it back, but I did. :)
Yep, there are just so many things that can happen. Glad to hear you got your account back!
I am glad they take the re-activation process seriously however because this protects you. Glad you got it back!

David, thank you for the tremendous value you are adding for us. It is great to see that you have our backs! It is difficult to keep up with all the change that are always being made and this will be a great way stay informed.

Hey Troy...yes I have seen this happen to quite a few people. We have been getting support tickets regarding this issue, and to my knowledge there is currently nothing that can be done. So MAKE SURE that you do not delete yourself from your own fan page!
