You@Facebook.com?

There are plenty of rumors going around that Facebook will be announcing a mail system on Monday… We’ll be right there to know first hand, but wanted to get some user feedback on the new potential service.
Would you switch from your current mail? Would you switch from Gmail?
What features would you look for that might make you switch?

I have been a social media marketer going on 3 years. I have been an Internet marketer for over 14. I was a spammer back when that meant entrepreneur. I have always worked hard for what I have and never went to college. I did however tour some colleges just out of high school playing music, so I guess I lived the life without the large loans. I never liked working for other people. I always knew that someone else was making a fortune from my hard labor; I built houses and then sold cars. I do what I love and love what I do! Oh and I love my wife, kids and dogs. Kitty...you're OK I guess...

Switching emails is always a hassle... We'll just have to see what the features are.
Hi,
Had my current email address for over 20 years, don't even use my business email address that much, so, I guess I would stick with what I have.

Hi there Yes I would like to change to facebook email this will be much easier as i already have a profile and also pages this will link everything together.
Great Idea!!!!

We hope it's much easier. I'm a gmail user, but I look forward to seeing what FB has to offer. ~Chance
This is exciting news, thats for sure! And of course, I'll be claiming my own @facebook.com email address. But to make the full switch from Gmail - I'll need to see a lot of things. Namely POP/SMTP functionality is the biggest one. I currently have 5 email addresses for my company tied to my single Gmail account. Also, a great contact/address book manager. Calendar options outside of 'Events.' Custom signatures that support images.
Additional 'bonuses' would be Priority Mail and the ability to instantly find new contacts on Facebook based on the email address they are using - even if not @facebook.com
It will be interesting to see how it all shapes up, as Facebook continues gunning down Google. They already won, with a storm, for PPC ads. Email is next. Search has been something they've been working on, and I expect that we'll see a more robust search engine behind the Facebook Search in the very near future. (better than what they are already doing with Bing) What is after Email? My money is on better video functionality to combat YouTube. Especially with Neilson estimating that 80% of all web traffic will be video by 2012
Thanks Peter. You've made some really great points.
Gmail is awesome, so it's going to take a lot for me to switch as well.
Multiple email address (pop/smtp) is crucial for this to even compare with gmail.
Calender, custom signature, and friend's email integration.... I hope FB is reading your comments. All great suggestions.
What's next:
Better video and some type of currency are my guess.
*FB credits seem like a great way to test currency with games and such, but I'm ready for the full on FB dollar/euro/whatever it's going to be referred to. Even a very small percentage of each transaction would add tremendous value to the FB cash flow. Hopefully that would be used for R&D on their quest to connect "everyone".
Nice points Peter. The features you listed will definitely be decisions makers for many people. It's weird how Facebook is lagging behind on video... There have got to be some good things coming with that in the near future.
I would for sure switch, if the transition was easy... Like an automated system of uploading all of my contacts over to @facebook.com :) Sounds awesome.
An automated system for uploading contacts is a great idea. I wonder how they plan on synching the email address associated with your "friends" accounts. The email I use to login is my old college email address, but I haven't logged into check/send mail from that email in at least two and a half years. ~Chance
I actually would seriously consider switching from gmail to facebook mail. I would first of all have a great email address: dfoster@facebook.com OH YA! and I would assume that it would already be as connected as I am to Facebook...and I have to say, I do love me some Google but I just feel that it's time for a change! Can't wait for Monday!
Thanks Troy!
I would definitely use it
sounds like a brilliant Idea so long as they disconnect from google to log in
I have already lost one email account and my facebook account due to hakers
You are right David, having a facebook address means having them going to facebook for the most part. Besides, peopole nowadays spend more time in facebook than anywhere else.
That's true. It really makes perfect sense if they execute it properly.

I definately would switch. I really don't log into my aol account anymore, because all my friends are here!
Yes that is a great point. I mean, I am on Facebook every day and Gmail just about as much, but if I could consolidate and only have to be on one site to do it all, that would really simplify things for me on a personal level...on a business level if they allow us to monitor our fan page messages, which people can not message admins as of yet, that would be SO much better because then it would simplify my business life as well...
I am excited to see what happens and what Facebook is going to announce tomorrow morning at 10:00 AM EST US live on the web...

I would not switch, I would get it in addition to. If facebook could do a better job with spam emails then definitely!! Otherwise it is just another free source to pick up an email account.
Hey Tania, I think FB will be able to do a great job with spam, but I wonder how it can be better than say... gmail? We're excited to see what they've come up with.
