No Longer Need 25 Likes to Get a Facebook Vanity URL

Holy Facebook Changes Batman!!!
I thought the changes a few weeks ago were big for profiles.. Boy was I wrong..
So not only do we have the ability to Subscribe to people as mentioned in a previous post. We can also see on pages who Shares posts. And we can also change our newsfeed ala Google+ to show whatever we want in our “stream”.
Now quietly Facebook no longer is requiring you to have 25 Likes before you can get your username or “vanity url”!
This is an awesome change as if you’re like me you’re in a lot of Social Media groups and I get so sick of half the post being people begging for their first 25 Likes as if they were some kind of teenager trying to get laid…
I tested this with a page that I used to test tabs and it has ZERO Likes and you can see from the images that I was allowed to get a vanity url:
I don’t know if these changes are reaction to Google+ or not but Twitter and Google+ just got ZUCKERBERGED today!!
If you’re new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Well, I found a glitch in the system. I have two new pages for which I am the admin for. I was able to obtain a vanity URL for one of them that had 21 fans; however, the one that only had 11 would not allow me to request the vanity URL, so there must still be a minimum that is currently undisclosed.
@Kendall, there are several very powerful and free methods for finding clients using FB. I believe calling is important in order to form a strong relationship, but finding them and forming the initial relationship with them is very straight forward and should not require any calling.
Yes- I believe it's got something to do with the amount of activity on the page. Worked a treat on a recently activated page (with very minimal activity, but activity none-the-less), but not for a couple of long-standing but inactive pages... I plan to do a couple of posts on these and then see if anything happens
Great! Now can we work on having the ability to edit a URL? Yes, I made the mistake of including a company name and I'm no longer with that company. I spent some bucks making my business page look like my web presence and really don't want to start over.
That is great. No more waiting for the 25 likes - I LIKE! (-_-) Thanks for your post.

In your local area the best way is to go to Networking events, BNI groups and Chamber of Commerce events. Just get to know the people. Don't sell your service. Then tell them about a free webinar or live in person event you're doing training them on social media. Then sell your services. ~Scott
@Kendall I'd say a mix of high quality content posted on a regular basis and face-to-face communication (or as close as you can possibly get to it) while letting people know you're on Facebook (and why they should care)
WOO HOO.. but wait.. wah wah... It worked for one client not for 2 others.. seems to pick and chose which pages it will be ok with allowing a vanity url.. *thanks* from the 1st and now the others are NOT so happy!! *sigh* NB my Facebook friends @Mari Smith, @Julia Senesac and @Kevin Lau
I do say thank you for the heads up.. love to get your bits @Scott Ayres!!
It must be a time limit thing. The client had setup the page months ago and is only now having us work with it. There was ZERO activity during that time so maybe that's it.
I noticed the same thing yesterday only it's not for all fan pages just yet. I was setting up a new page for a client and it still required the 25 likes for the username. We'll see if it eventually gets implemented for all pages or it they are testing things out.

I got my vanity URL but for some strange reason is not going to my facebook page BUT to the facebook login page. You need to be logged out of facebook to see what I'm talking about: check www.facebook.com/floridatransportation
@JackiKearslake Yeah maybe it's page age or something.. Maybe they will make an official comment on it.
@HaydenCohen No you can't.
@JenniferFowler yeah it's hit and miss.. I got it to give me one on the page above and it has 1 like.. Me..

Can anyone help/ If you've got a profile and fan page and want to change to subscribe for profile only, can you use the vanity url from the fan page?

@ScottAyres@Julia@kevin@Scott@mari Thanks I will keep my eyes open.. this would be awesome for new companies and small business startups..
@paulinobrener Yeah it seems to be hit and miss..
This is not rolled out for everyone (or for all pages) yet.
@LorraineKenny I agree!!
@drdaisys Tell me about it!!! Makes it fun though.. Just subscribe to our blog and you'll always be up to date!
Thanks for the info, I'm sure this will help everyone.
Thanks for the information...it seems that Facebook is ever changing...can't keep up:)
@NormaDoiron No problem.. I have noticed it seems to work and then not work on pages...
FB doesn't let you change it Theresa. ~Scott

@BrianDevine Yeah I got it to work on 2 pages and then nada..
@hubze It seems to be hit and miss right now.
@troolsocial@mari@Julia@kevin@Scott Yeah I ran into the same thing. Worked for 2 and no more.. May be something that is rolling out. Or was something they didn't mean to roll out!
What Scott recommends above is the approach we're taking Web Design and SEO by Working Web Solutions and it seems to be working. Slower process but building a presence in the community and building our brand and become the leader for Facebook Marketing Services in Portland OR

Thanks, yea I ABSOLUTELY hate calling, but I figured that is probably the only way since I have tried about everything else. Any tips on what to say? I have some incredible examples of things I have done, I just did not want to make the phone calls.
@Kendall, Hi, everyone tries to teach you a million ways on how to do it without cold calling, but if you can just get stuck into it, call people and point out what they are missing out on, or what is wrong with their page, this is what gets results. Research their FB presence first and you will find plenty they can improve on

Anyone care to share the methods they are using to finding FB marketing clients?

Just tried on another 2 pages that have only 2 and 3 likes, but theres no go on them, guess its best to check now and again you never know
Thanks Liz good to know
Or maybe you can only do it to one page.. ~Scott
Maybe it's just hit and miss right now
i just did it on a page with 20 liks and it allowed me
Cheers Scott - it's nearly sent me to open a bottle of wine or two tonight, but hey thanks for letting us know :)
And just FYI FB may have already stopped this!!! I just tried with a page with 3 likes and it wasn't "eligible".. hmmmm
FB sometimes rolls changes out over time.. Give it a few days/weeks?
I dunno.. worked for me twice.. ~Scott
I just tried and it's not working do they limit you
