Timeline is MANDATORY

For a hot-second my friends (a quirky breed of Facebook purists) considered themselves too good for Timeline.

I was even taunted about my monumental cover photo of a dozen doughnuts  from Doughnut Kingdom that hovers above my profile picture like a halo of sweet glazed rainbow sprinkled, goodness gracious– I digress…

So this isn’t really a big deal for those of you who have rolled with the changes and set-up your Timeline already– y’all are ahead of the game, but for those of you who thought Timeline was optional– THINK AGAIN.

According to a Facebook blog post,”Over the next few weeks, everyone will get timeline.”

Apparently you can go “Get Timeline” or “you can wait until you see an announcement at the top of your homepage.”

And in your mental preparation for the inevitable, don’t get so worked-up, Timeline is great.

  1. Bold and Beautiful: Designer’s of Timeline were focused on creating an emotional experience rather than a utilitarian data hoarding interface. The Timeline design allows users to choose what they want to highlight with controls on individual items.
  2. Optimized Navigation: It is easier to find old posts, however you may be embarrassed by your “old-self” (thank goodness there is a 7-day period in which you can wipe-out your Facebook history). Also there are drop-down menu’s and sidebars that put the world of Facebook at your fingertips.
  3. Increased Privacy:Every post is included with a privacy drop-box that allows you to customized who see’s what.

I had a feeling the Timeline “option” was too good to be true. It just wouldn’t make any sense when you think about continuity. And speaking of continuity, Facebook’s Timeline push signals that we are one step closer to Timeline for Fan Pages (WOO).

It seems like Facebook has even mastered the art of social network change, a slow and steady allusion of optional technology.

If you have been using Timeline for a while comment and let us know what you think about it, otherwise last words are also welcome!
